Expected date. The start depends on the moon sighting where you live.
اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ، رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ
Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-yumni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-islam, rabbi wa rabbukallah
O Allah, let this moon rise over us with blessing and faith, safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.
Said on sighting the crescent of any month, including Ramadan.
There is no authentic dua specific to suhoor, and no wording for the intention to fast — intention is in the heart. The widely shared formula “wa bisawmi ghadin nawaytu” has no basis in the Sunnah. What is established is the meal itself: “Take suhoor, for in suhoor there is blessing.”
ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ، وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ، وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Dhahabaz-zama'u wabtallatil-'uruqu wa thabatal-ajru in sha' Allah
The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is certain, if Allah wills.
What the Prophet ﷺ said when he broke his fast. The other well-known wording, “Allahumma laka sumtu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu”, is reported in Abu Dawud 2358 with a weak, disconnected chain.
“Three whose supplication is not rejected: the fasting person until he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the one who has been wronged.” The minutes before the adhan of Maghrib are worth keeping for dua.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni
O Allah, You are the Pardoner and You love to pardon, so pardon me.
Taught by the Prophet ﷺ to 'Aishah when she asked what to say if she found Laylat al-Qadr. The word “karim” often added after 'afuwwun is not in the authentic narration.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten of Ramadan” (Bukhari 2017). Those are the nights of the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th — and each Islamic night begins at Maghrib the evening before that day.
When the last ten began, he would stay up through the night, wake his family, and strive harder than at any other time (Bukhari 2024). If you cannot keep the whole night, guard the last third of it.
The first day of fasting is expected on or around 2027-02-08. The actual start depends on the sighting of the crescent where you live.
